Overlaying coherent-detection channels over direct-detection channels in multi-bit-rate systems

Abstract

We discuss the interactions of coherent PDM-QPSK channels at 40Gb/s or 100Gb/s with lower-bit-rate legacy channels over a typical terrestrial link. Nonlinear effects are found especially penalizing at 40Gb/s.
