Measurement of optical fiber macrobending losses in a single turn with continuously-varying radius

Abstract

In a single-mode fiber bent in a continuously-shrinking circle we show an exponential loss increase, with a superimposed oscillatory pattern that depends on the source linewidth, on the bent sample, and on its angular orientation.
