Photonic Band Gap Materials: Light Trapping Crystals

Abstract

Photonic Band Gap (PBG) materials are crystals that enable microscopic trapping and guiding of light in a 3D optical chip. I review applications to optical communications, information processing, efficient lighting, and solar energy harvesting.
