Symmetry-induced Dispersion and performance penalty in Coupled Resonator Optical Waveguides

Abstract

We show that for fundamental reasons, microdisk based CROWs possess two non-degenerate transmission modes, making their long-planned use in optical communications highly challenging. Interference between these modes can lead to complete eye closure in most relevant communications scenarios.
