He is full Professor and the Head of the Photonic Engineering Group of the University of Cantabria, Spain. Presently, he works in the development of Photonic techniques and Instrumentation and Optical Fiber Sensor for characterization and monitoring of processes, materials and structures of a wide set of application sector. Has directed more than 50 R&D projects, written or co-written more than 400 publications and obtained more than 10 patents. He is currently a TPC member of several conferences, was the chairman of the EWOFS04, of the OFS20 and will be chairman of the OFS23 conferences. He is a member of IEEE (senior), OSA and SPIE.
