Laser Coherence Enhancement by Extra-Cavity Parametric Mixing

Abstract

We introduce a novel approach for laser coherence enhancement through parametric multiplication of the instantaneous frequency variation, thus eliminating the use of highly-resonant cavities. A 300-fold linewidth reduction of a tunable laser is demonstrated.
