PDL Compensation Using Whitening Matrix in Polarization Division Multiplexed Coherent Optical Transmission

Abstract

A novel noise whitening method for compensating the performance loss due to spatially-colored noise in the presence of polarization-dependent impairments is proposed. The proposed algorithm is general for all single carrier, WDM, and OFDM systems.
