Abstract
FEC Overview ⧠ Forward Error Correction (FEC) ➢ Mitigates the effect of channel impairments and improv es transmission reliability by introducing controlled redundancy ➢ The redundancy is exploited at the receiver to correct the errors accumulated during transmission ➢ Adding redundancy means adding Overhead (OH) or using extra Bandwidth (BW) ➢ Coding Gain is the improv ement in operating Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) compared to uncoded transmission at a target Bit Error Rate (BER) ➢ Net Coding Gain (NCG) or Net Electrical Coding Gain (NECG) is coding gain corrected for the FEC OH
