Controlling Fiber Geometry to Improve Optical Performance of Low-Cost 12-fiber MTP Connectors

Abstract

We study the effect of fiber tip shape and height distribution on fiber physical contact in the MTP connector. We identify a new polishing process that results in <0.17dB of mean insertion loss per fiber.
