Reliability of Un-Isolated ONU Upstream Lasers in the Face of Coherence Collapse – Feedback Regimes Due to Rayleigh Backscatter

Abstract

“Coherence collapse” in un-isolated ONU lasers due to distributed Rayleigh backscatter is investigated and shown not to follow the classic T-C-feedback regimes. RIN and spectral degradation are measured; guidelines for acceptable PON performance are provided.
