Adiabatic Chirp Impact on the OSNR Sensitivity of Complex Direct Modulation: An Experiment Investigation

Abstract

We study the adiabatic chirp impact on the complex direct modulation using polarization-multiplexed PAM-4 system by varying signal baud-rate with data-rate up to 120 Gb/s. Experiment shows insufficient chirp at 30-Gbaud degrades >4 dB OSNR sensitivity compared with 10-Gbaud.
