Experimental analysis of the modal evolution in photonic lanterns

Abstract

We experimentally analyze the modal evolution in a 10 mode-selective photonic lantern along the tapered transition using a swept-wavelength interferometer. Mode conversion to HOMs occurs closer to the beginning of the photonic lantern taper.
