Giant Enhancement in Signal Contrast Using Integrated All-Optical Nonlinear Thresholder

Abstract

We experimentally demonstrate, for the first time, an all-optical nonlinear thresh-older on a silicon photonic integrated circuit. This thresholder enhances signal amplitude contrast 40-fold and improves receiver sensitivity by 10 dB.
