Revisiting Probabilistic Constellation Shaping in Unamplified Coherent Optical Links

Abstract

Considering an unamplified 4 00ZR-compatible system, we experimentally demonstrate that the reverse Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution significantly enhances PCS performance. With bit-rate adaptation down to 250 Gbps, we find power budget gains of more than 2 dB.
