Direct Intensity Detection of Complex Communication Data Signals Using a Real-time Photonics Spectrogram

Abstract

We use a time-lens spectrogram for real-time recovery of complex modulation data signals using a single photodiode, no local oscillator, and simple decision method. Our proof-of-concept experiment decodes QAM4 and QAM8 under the FEC limit.
