Displacement Sensors and Signal Encoding Circuits Using Twisted Dual Core Fiber

Abstract

A new displacement sensor is proposed which uses dual core fiber composed of two parallel single mode fibers. The sensor possesses high stability against temperature variation and simple configuration. Phase difference variation between two cores is produced by displacing a twisted dual core fiber and it has a linear sensing output versus the displacing distance. Through vibration of the dual core fiber, encoded light pulses are obtained.
