Abstract
A fiber ring resonator has been fabricated with an adjustable polished evanescent field coupler (0.01-dB loss), which allows a resonator linewidth Γ of 100 kHz and a finesse F of up to 600 at 633-nm wavelength. Backscattering as high as 0.13 of the input power has been observed well below the Brillouin laser threshold of 120 μW.
