Abstract

Previously, a laser Doppler velocimeter (LDV) with an optical-fiber pickup was developed for measurement of the flow velocity in blood vessels by one of the authors [1]. The LDV has the advantages of high spatial and temporal resolution, excellent accessibility to an object and freedom from electric induction noises. Since the heterodyne optics was constructed by combining several bulk components on a 30×30 cm optical bench, however, the whole LDV system was thus bulky and a careful optical alignment was required. On the other hand, an introduction of the integrated-optic technology to the fiber LDV should result in more compact and rugged heterodyne optics with no requirement for an extra optical alignment. This paper proposes and demonstrates an optical integrated circuit (optical IC).for the fiber LDV.
