Optical Temperature Sensor Based on Wavelength Scanning Technology

Abstract

Wavelength scanning technology has been applied to an optical temperature sensor for the first time. The sensor utilizes optical polarization change due to temperature change. The transducer part of the sensor is composed of polarization maintaining fibers (PMF), and no other optical components, such as prisms or lenses, are used. The new optical temperature sensor eliminates compensation for transmission loss fluctuation due to fiber interconnection or the fiber itself.
