Abstract
The earlier work on soft glass fiber lasers doped with rare earths were used as oscillators1 and for several amplifier applications. A gain of 47dB was obtained for the output at 1.06 μm from an InAs1-xPx laser diode. 2 A gain of 40dB was obtained for a helium neon laser emitting at 1.0621μm. 3 Experiments were done with the use of a single mode fiber as a preamplifier in a detection system. 4 Spontaneous emission and saturation limits imposed by super luminescence have also been considered. 5 With the availability of high radiance lasers and the use of low loss glass hosts end pumped Nd doped fibers were lased first in multimode fibers6 and later in single mode fibers with Nd, Pr or Er. 7,8
