Abstract

Optical Frequency Domain Reflectometry (OFDR) methods [1] which make use of swept frequency optical modulation intensity sources are resolution limited by the available bandwidths of the microwave to optical intensity transducers. The recently introduced coded phase reversal modulators [2] make use of coded electrode patterns to achieve extended bandwidths while maintaining low drive power. These devices make feasible the extension of OFDR measurements to previously unattainable resolutions, as demonstrated in this paper.
