Abstract

To date, most current sensors based on the Faraday effect have been in the form of a coil with a large number of turns of low birefringence monomode fibre wound around a current-carrying conductor [1-3]. In the Faraday effect, the change in azimuth, ΦF, of a linear polarised state propagating in a dielectric material subject to a magnetic field H, is given by
