Abstract
A new scheme for distributed fiber sensing of temperature profiles is presented. The realized sensor is based on the generation of stimulated Brillouin scattering by a multiple-frequency Nd:YLF laser, having a mode difference frequency close to the Brillouin frequency shift. The resulting low- frequency Brillouin beat signal allows the realization of a simplified detection scheme, employing a low-cost detector and conventional signal processing techniques.
