Fiber Optic Bragg Grating Strain Sensor with Direct Reflectometric Interrogation

Abstract

We describe a strain sensor concept based on the use of a tailored Bragg grating element in which the grating reflectivity at a given wavelength is monitored with strain. The concept is simple and can be extended to allow the addresing of potentially a large number of elements using OTDR analysis.
