Fabrication of Long Period Fiber Gratings by Carving Periodic Grooves on the Fiber Using a Focused CO2 Laser Beam

Abstract

Fabrication of long period fiber gratings by use of a focused CO2 laser beam to carve periodic grooves on the fibre is demonstrated. A large transmission attenuation of -47.39dB at the resonant wavelength is experimentally achieved.
