Distributed shape sensing with a multicore fibre based on BOTDR technique

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A first attempt to perform shape sensing using the BOTDR interrogation technique in a multicore fibre is presented. It is shown that by comparing the relative Brillouin frequency shift between the central core and two of the outer cores, the curvature of an object can be measured.
