Abstract

By combining simulations and experiments, low-loss optical fiber structure was optimized to allow discriminative monitoring of temperature and strain through Brillouin sensing: discrimination capability of ~5°C/MHz and ~100µε/MHz is shown for the best manufactured fiber.
