Virtual Transparency in a Distributed Sensor Using Modulated First-Order Raman Amplification

Abstract

Raman amplification with engineered amplitude modulation is proposed and optimized. A flat trace is experimentally achieved along 50 km without significant SNR penalty. Moreover, the pump power is reduced comparing to the continuous pump case.
