Abstract

The validation and construction of a setup for the measurement of changes in temperature product of the exposition of biological tissue substitute material (phantom) to microwave radiation is presented, in this were used optical Fiber Bragg Gratings FBGs sensors to validate the hypotesis that their presence in the phantom does not disturb the electromagnetic fields a nd f or t hat r eason t hey a re s uitable t o p erform m easurements of temperature in real time. This is a key factor in hyperthermia treatments were many of its benefits d epends i n a c ritical way o n t he a bility t o m easure h igh t emperatures specially when the heating is carried out via irradiation of microwave energy. From these results a linear relation between the temperature reached and the irradiation time is obtained. This is a good departure point to consider other factors in the irradiation instruments that ensure temperature changes that are not harmful to the human body.
