Fiber Laser Sensor Detection of Acoustic Emissions from Stress Corrosion Cracking in Aluminum

Abstract

We demonstrate a fiber laser sensor used to detect acoustic emissions generated by stress corrosion cracking in sensitized aluminum. Several performance metrics closely match those of industry standard piezo-electric sensors.
