Fibre-Air-Fibre Sensing Structure for Ice Detection

Abstract

A fibre-air-fibre structure made of single-mode optical fibres and glass fibre-reinforced plastics is proposed for ice detection. Monitoring power transmission changes, the sensor allows temperature-independent detection of ice formation in very early stages.
