Abstract

We investigates the strain dependence of the spatial resolution in Brillouin Optical Correlation Domain Reflectometry (BOCDR) and its ability to measure smooth continuous strain distributions. We derive a spatial resolution formula including strain dependency from simulation results. Additionally, we explore the limitations of measuring smooth strain distributions, finding that rapid strain changes lead to discontinuous in measured strain distribution. The parameter of the beat spectrum's sidelobe imposes a constraint on the maximum measurable slope of the strain distribution.
