Abstract

A large-range and high-resolution optical fiber sensor based on Brillouin and Rayleigh scattering is proposed, which merges frequency-scanning phase-sensitive optical time-domain reflectometry (φ-OTDR) and Brillouin optical time domain analysis (BOTDA) via an adaptive signal corrector (ASC). Its measure range is determined by BOTDA, which could reach the limitation of optical fiber, while the resolution is as high as φ-OTDR. In the concept-proof experiments, a maximum strain variation up to 302.9 μϵ is measured with a resolution of 5.5 nϵ.
