Abstract

Forged optics can include a mounting flange on the periphery of a convex lens! This paper shows that a lens with a flat annulus on both sides of the lens in included in an experimental forging program. The lens diameter is larger than the required clear aperture by the dimension of the shoulder and the lens thickness at the clear aperture can be the shoulder thickness.. This shoulder is machineable allowing post forging adjustments on air gap and centration. The possibility of threading the outside of the shoulder allows for a whole new generation of lens mounting technology.
