Abstract

This paper discusses various types of diamond turning machine currently in use and compares their geometry to the aspherical generator developed at Kollmorgen. Typical aspheric optical surfaces are discussed and a normalized mathematical formulation derived. Specifications for the desired surface as applicable to single point machining are suggested. Methods of qualifying the surface are presented. The Kollmorgen aspheric measuring machine is described.
