Abstract

The Large Optical Generator (LOG) is a numerically controlled vertical milling machine. The LOG was designed for the generation of rotationally symmetric monoliths of upto 8-m in diameter or off-axis segments of surfaces upto 15-m in diameter. The LOG machine has an 8-m diameter capacity, 5-m horizontal travel and 1.5-m vertical travel and positioning to 1 micron on the horizontal and vertical axes.
