Abstract
In the U.S., the industrial development of optical coating technology was mostly driven by military and space requirements. Naturally, de-facto standards grew out of military specifications, which are fairly comprehensive and still widely accepted also for nonmilitary applications, both in the U.S. and overseas. So, why do we need new international standards at all?
