Abstract

The matching of tool and workpiece is known to play a vital part in the reproducible manufacturing of plane and spherical precision optics. Whereas with viscoplastical polishers (pitch) the decisive matching is achieved virtually automatically through the relative speed and pressure distribution in the mutual contact during the polishing process, an accurate preadjustment is absolutely essential if thermoplastic polishers are used for the replica polishing technique.
