The Future of Optics: Current Status of the Opticam SM

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The progress of the state of the art Opticam SM (a horizontal spindle, four axis CNC machining center) since its delivery to the Center for Optics Manufacturing in May 1992, has been remarkable. The Opticam SM is producing spherical glass microground surfaces with 100-200 Angstrom finishes and better than 0.5 wave p-v surface figure. The current status on the operation of this high precision machine along with surface results and future developments will be presented.
