Optical polishing of the VLT 8.2m primary mirrors - A report

Abstract

The European Southern Observatory (ESO) Very Large Telescope (VLT) project is an array of four 8m class telescopes which can operate either independently or in interferometric mode. Figure 1 is a sketch of one 8m telescope in its enclosure. Unit telescopes are of the Ritchey-Chrétien type, with the pupil on the secondary mirror.
