Abstract

Magnetorheological finishing (MRF) requires long term stability of the removal function or polishing spot, which is created by the magnetic field-stiffened magnetorheological (MR) fluid in contact with the workpiece surface. Once it is characterized for shape and magnitude of removal, the stable polishing spot serves as input to a computational algorithm for designing polishing programs to finish optics [1,2].
