Polarization-controlled switching in cycloidal nematic liquid crystals

Abstract

Cycloidal nematic liquid crystal cells are capable of high diffraction efficiency in thin layers of materials comparable to the radiation wavelength. We demonstrate switching between diffraction orders of such grating using phase retarder.
