Abstract
A simple literature search for nearly any topic within the field of optical fabrication and testing typically leads to a paper written by Norman J. Brown, Jr. It is difficult to find a topic within this field that does not find its way back to this engineer, who spent his career working at LLNL in the mechanical engineering department. Norm Brown’s diverse publication topics range from computationally directed aspheric figuring to optical polishing pitch to comparisons of non-contact surface profiling instruments. The most identifying feature of all of his publications was their practical application to the optical shops and the engineers, technicians and opticians that work with optics every day. We will pay tribute to this giant in his field as we review his technical contributions [1-26] to the field of optical fabrication and testing during this presentation.
