Abstract

In this paper we report the low cost 80 MHz analog FDM fiber-optic link capable to transmit three 5 MHz video channels, three 4 MHz digital channels and three 1 MHz audio channels simultaneously through 1,000 ft. Corning 19-fibers bundle by utilizing LED transmitter and avalanche photodetector. The low cost commercial minature 50-Ohm amplifiers are used in the transmitter and receiver design which provides system simplicity, cost reduction and the possibility of circuit fabrication in IC configuration. The transmitter - 1,000 fiber cable-receiver combination has measured S/N of 55 dB at TV channel 3 frequencies and S/N of 64 dB at 13MHz. This demonstrates the capability of bright future for the fiber-optic wideband analog applications.
