Abstract

We report for the first time the observation of cw Raman stimulated scattering in an optical fiber. Stimulated Raman emission in fibers in a pulsed mode has been observed by Ippen⁽¹⁾ and Stolen, Ippen, and Tynes⁽²⁾ and it was noted that cw operation should be attainable.
