Abstract
The goal is to produce a reflector whose reflectance peak is centered at a relatively long wavelength λ0. One possibility is a stack is composed of dielectric materials—alternating between a high index B and low index layers A. In general, such a coating manifests harmonic reflectance peaks at shorter wavelengths, λ0/2, λ0/3, λ0/2,… λ0/m, and so on. m is the order number of the reflectance band, which is defined as the number of half wavelengths contained in the basic period. If the ratio of the optical thickness of B to the optical thickness of A is p/q, (where q and p are integers) single (but not adjacent) higher order reflectance peaks are missing, As an example, reflectance bands may be missing at m = 2,4,6,… or at m = 3,6,9,… but not at m = 2,3 and or m = 3,4.
