Strategy for Successfully Coating a 22” Diameter Mirror for the Keck Telescope with Protected Silver using 6” Sputter Cathodes

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A durable silver coating with an average reflectance of >94% from 280nm to > 2500 nm was deposited on a 22-inch diameter optic for the Keck Observatory. This paper describes the strategies used to accomplish this using small 6” diameter sputtering cathodes.
