Abstract

This work presents a simple and high efficient way to change the polarization state from an anisotropic thin film. The anisotropic thin film is an MgF2 columnar thin film prepared by glancing angle deposition and arranged in a prism coupling system (BK7 prism/anisotropic film/air). Under the same principal refractive indices and columnar angle of MgF2 columnar films, the broadband polarization conversion (PC) wavelength spectrum can be obtained at an optimum thickness of the film and incident angle of light. By using optimum condition of thicknesses and incident angles, the averaged PC reflectance over 80% can be obtained within the visible regime.
