High performance electro-optic modulator employing a thin BiFeO3 film on Au with absorption resonance

Abstract

High performance electro-optic modulator is achieved employing a thin multiferroic BiFeO3 film on thick Au. This arises from the strong absorption resonance in BiFeO3 and its electric tunable huge birefringence (Δn = 0.15 − 0.31).
