Abstract

We present a new algorithm for automatic protection switching (APS) which permits loopback recovery from edge and node failures for arbitrary redundant networks. Loopback based APS recovery is desirable because it generally requires less spare bandwidth capacity than path based APS recovery. Our algorithm allows more flexible network design than algorithms which depend on specific topologies such as rings or interconnected rings.
